The maquette for the final design was commissioned in 2017. I was asked to design a sculpture that would encapsulate the plight of a group of women and children in Vietnam called the Lai Dai Han (meaning children of mixed blood). During the Vietnam war South Korea raped a large number of girls and women and as a result fathered children who have grown up heavily stigmatised in the shadows of Vietnamese society.
