REBECCA HAWKINS
celebrating human stories of strength & freedom
Original Drawings
Rebecca's drawings are inspired by the women she has met on her travels in countries such as India and Nepal. Predominantly drawing in charcoal, Rebecca draws from her mind's eye, capturing a snapshot of strength and movement. Although these are among some of the most colourful of women and countries, Rebecca uses charcoal so that viewers concentrate her subjects' sense of elegant movement, steely strength and resilience that inspires her work rather than being distracted by colour.
Over the years Rebecca has introduced gold leaf on coloured backgrounds, drawing in symbolism from the countries the women are from through Block prints from that region. Through her travels, she has spent time shadowing various charities in these countries, and her drawings are often inspired by the work they do. A percentage of the profit of drawings inspired by these organisations goes back to them when the artworks sell. Through covid, Rebecca has been helping to support the Sambhali Trust in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, with the sale of prints from these originals which were inspired by their powerful work supporting stigmatised and marginalised women in Rajasthan.
Rebecca draws to all scales in charcoal on paper and gold leaf. If you would like to enquire about a bespoke drawing commission please do not hesitate to get in touch
